Bicyclist killed in collision with pickup towing livestock trailer in Marion County
MARION COUNTY -- A 64-year-old bicyclist died of injuries in a collision with a pickup truck pulling a livestock trailer, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.
Jeffrey A. Arn, of Bucyrus, who had been riding a Concord bicycle, was transported from the scene by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.
No one else was hurt.
The fatal crash occurred about 4 p.m. Monday on State Route 4 north of Marseilles Galion Road in Marion County and about 18 miles east of Galion.
Besides the bicycle, two vehicles were involved -- the 2021 Ford F-150 pickup pulling a livestock trailer, driven by Charles E. Foust, 78, of Marion and a 2024 Ford Bronco, driven by Tabitha A. Burson, 29, of Marion, the patrol reports.
The preliminary investigation, the patrol said, indicates:
-- Foust and Burson were traveling southbound on State Route 4
-- Arn, riding the bicycle, was traveling southbound on the gravel berm on the west side of State Route 4.
"Mr. Arn swerved to the left, struck the west edge of State Route 4, entered onto the roadway and was struck by Mr. Foust’s vehicle," the patrol said in a statement. "Ms. Burson’s vehicle was struck by debris."
Foust did not report any injuries as a result of the crash. Burson and two juveniles in the Bronco were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the patrol’s Marion post.
The state patrol was assisted on scene by Marion Township Fire and EMS, Salt Rock Township EMS, and Kirby’s Towing.
