Election Day is here.
Voting hours statewide for the primary/special election day, Tuesday, May 6, are 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The May 6 election ballot includes Shelby's Marvin Memorial Library, the Richland County Board of Elections reports. The proposal calls for a 5-year, 1.75 mill property tax renewal for current expenses.
Voters who reside in the Shelby school district will vote on the Marvin Memorial Library ballot measure, said Matt Finfgeld, director of the Richland County Board of Elections.
A liquor option for Sunday sales is on the ballot in Shelby precinct 4B for the new Mickey Mart off Mansfield Avenue.
The whole county will be voting as State Issue 2 is on the ballot.
On May 6, State Issue 2 involves a proposed constitutional amendment to fund public infrastructure capital improvements by permitting the issuance of general obligation bonds.
Only the cities of Mansfield and Ontario have partisan primaries.
Voters looking to check on their polling location are advised to go to the board's website www.boe.ohio.gov/richland
Finfgeld is hoping for voter turnout of about 10 percent in Richland County as a whole. “I’m not so sure we’re going to get there, but I am going to try to be optimistic,” he said. “Hopefully, we do get there.”
Early voting started on April 8 across Ohio. As of May 1, early voting stood at 1.5 percent in Richland County. That included both in-person early voting at the Longview Center and mail/absentee ballots. Early in-person voting ended at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4.
Finfgeld hopes for final unofficial results by 10:30 p.m. or 11 p.m. on Election night.
"We are ready to go, and all polls will be open and staffed to the level that they need to be," Finfgeld said. "We'll be ready to serve the voters."
In addition to the State Issue, the following Richland County areas have issues on the ballot in the summary from the Board of Elections:
Two measures were submitted for Plymouth voters to address on May 6:
-- PLYMOUTH: PROPERTY TAX (RENEWAL - 1 mill, 5 YEARS, COMMENCING 2025, FIRST DUE 2026) operating and maintaining the village cemetery. (A similar measure narrowly lost in November 2024).
-- PLYMOUTH: PROPERTY TAX-ADDITIONAL - 2 mills, 5 YEARS, for police
(Some Huron County residents vote in the Plymouth election, as well)

In Richland County, the Berean Baptist Church, located at 2145 Middle Bellville Rd., will no longer be serving as a polling location, the elections board said via news release. This change affects the voters in the following Richland County precincts:
-- MAN 1A
-- MAN 1B
-- MAN 1E
-- MAN 1F
-- WASH B
-- WASH C
-- WASH F
These precincts have been moved to new locations.
New Location for MAN 1B, MAN 1E, MAN 1F, AND WASH B: APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 1332 MIDDLE BELLVILLE RD, Mansfield, OH 44904
New location for MAN 1A, WASH C, AND WASH F: NEW LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH, 2705 Lexington Ave., Mansfield, OH 44904
Voters in these precincts have been mailed a notice of their new polling location, the elections board said. The board does not expect to make any other revisions unless an emergency arises, the news release said.
Berean Baptist Church had been a polling location for many years, Finfgeld said, hosting seven Richland County precincts. "It was our largest one in the county" but it is no longer a voting location, he said.
Because of its size, the precincts were split between the two new voting locations.
