Kelleys Island: Mustang overturns after hitting posts, deck, rocks, water in fatal crash
KELLEYS ISLAND -- A motorist was killed early Monday when the car he was driving went off a road, struck several metal fence posts, a deck, several rocks and overturned, coming to a rest partially in the water, authorities report.
The driver was identified as Wesley S. Finley, 24, of East Bernstadt, Ky., the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred at 2 a.m. Monday on West Lakeshore Drive west of Huntington Street on Kelleys Island in Erie County.
Finley was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang west on West Lakeshore Drive, the patrol said, and drove off the left side of the road, resulting in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the patrol’s Sandusky post.
The state patrol was assisted at the scene by the Kelleys Island Police Department, Kelleys Island Fire Department and EMS, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, the Erie County coroner and Sugar Ridge Towing.
