List: Shelby police calls (Jan. 25-26)

Call type: TRAFFIC CRASH
Location: 347 W. MAIN ST
Time: 3:32 p.m.
Narrative per police report: A 2005 Ford F-150 was attempting to turn north into 347 W. Main St. and did not yield to westbound traffic. A 2009 Lincoln MKZ struck the pickup, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. The pickup was traveling at 15 mph and the car at 35 mph. The posted speed in that area is 45 mph. Laurence's Towing was contacted and assisted with towing the Lincoln. The pickup remained at the private residence. Both drivers provided proof of insurance. The pickup's driver was cited for right of way when turning left. No injuries were reported involving the 33-year-old driver of the pickup or the 93-year-old driver of the Lincoln.

Call type: RECKLESS OPERATION

Time of call: 12:33 p.m.
Police narrative: The Shelby Police Department received a complaint of a reckless driver on Technology Parkway The caller stated the vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the roadway and possibly struck a mailbox. The driver was located on Parkwood Drive and stopped on Louise Drive. The driver appeared under the influence and performed poorly on the standardized field sobriety test. The driver was placed under arrest and secured with handcuffs without incident. The driver's vehicle was parked on the side of the roadway and the driver was taken to the police department. The driver provided a breath sample that resulted in a 0.240 BrAC. The driver's license was seized and a citation issud for OVI and weaving, full time attention. The driver was released to a family member and given a court date in Shelby Municipal Court.

Call type: DISTURBANCE

Time of call: 1:48 p.m.
Police narrative: Officers responded to a Shelby address in reference to a male who was threatening suicide. A person told police that a male had come to the house upset and was beating on her door. The person advised when she refused to speak with the male, he made suicidal threats and went into the detached garage. Upon checking the garage doors, they were found to be locked. After identifying themselves as officers, officers could hear somewhat of a struggle happening inside the garage. The male acknowledged he was in the garage, but his voice sounded somewhat distressed. Approximately 30 seconds later, the male opened the door to the garage and surrendered himself. He was later taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where he is being held on a 72-hour mental health evaluation.
