List: Shelby police calls (May 30-June 5)
More than a dozen new reports were released by Shelby police on Thursday. Here is a look.
May 30
Location: SMILEY/BROADWAY
Time: 7:12 p.m.
Narrative per police report: A Chevrolet, traveling eastbound on Smiley, approached the intersection of Smiley and Broadway, having the red light. A Kawasaki EX250, traveling southbound on Broadway, approached and entered the intersection (having the right of way.) The Chevy made and completed a right-hand turn onto Broadway. To avoid a collision, the Kawasaki braked, causing him to lose control, laying the motorcycle down. The Chevrolet left the scene and its 78-year-old driver was later cited. The 17-year-old on the Kawasaki sustained a suspected minor injury. The Kawasaki sustained functional damage.

Time: 1:58 a.m.
Narrative per police report: Officers were detailed to the above address in reference to a disorderly male who was intoxicated. Officers arrived and conducted an investigation.

Call type: ANIMAL COMPLAINT

Time: 12:54 p.m.
Narrative per police report: Officers were dispatched to a Second Street address following a report of a dog running at large. The complainant informed them that the dog had been running up and down the road multiple times, describing it as brown in color and possibly a pit bull. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with the caller. While they were talking, the dispatcher reached out to the dog's owner, who informed them that the dog was now inside the home. As a result, the dog owner was cited for allowing the dog to run at large. The officer also informed the dog owner of their scheduled court date.

Narrative per police report: A citizen turned in found property they recovered at their residence. The complainant reported finding an item on their front porch. The owner is unknown at this time. The item will be stored in the property room for safekeeping.
June 1
Call type: CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
Location: City of Shelby
Time: 7:37 p.m.
Narrative per police report: A complainant arrived on-station to report a criminal mischief. The complainant advised that she has been noticing new scratches on her vehicle and believes that her neighbor's children are the ones damaging the vehicle. The complainant advised that she had no proof at this time but wanted the incident documented. An officer conducted a walk-around of the vehicle along with the complainant. He was able to observe numerous scratches around the vehicle, some of them appearing newer than others. The complainant advised that they will try and adjust their surveillance cameras in order to keep better watch over the vehicles and will call back if they come up with anything.

Narrative per police report: A person reported telephone harassment. The complainant advised that he had received a Facebook message from another individual advising that he was on his way to his home and he needed to meet him outside. Officers attempted to locate the subject in order to advise him that he is to have no contact with the complainant, but he has not been located at this time.

Narrative per police report: A person arrived at the Shelby Police Department about phone harassment.

Call type: MISSING JUVENILE
Location: THE ADVANTAGE GROUP HOME, 147 W. MAIN
Time: 3:16 p.m.
Narrative per police report: The facility contacted the police department to report that one of the juveniles living there had walked away. An officer made contact with the staff, who explained the juvenile was upset from losing privileges and had left the facility on foot. Information about the juvenile was obtained, and the area was checked without locating him. The juvenile was entered into LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) as missing. Later, the juvenile was located in front of the residence, and he was removed from LEADS as missing.
June 2
Call type: SUSPICIOUS PERSON

Time: 7:38 a.m.
Narrative per police report: The police department received a complaint of a male acting in a suspicious manner on Mack Avenue in the area of Carleton St. Officers later made contact with the male, who appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis. When officers attempted to secure him with handcuffs so he could be taken to the hospital, he resisted and struggled. After a brief struggle, he was secured with handcuffs. The male's vitals were checked by Shelby Fire prior to being transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital for an emergency mental health evaluation.

Narrative per police report: Officers assisted a neighboring agency in service and a temporary protection order.
June 3
Call type: THEFT
Location: CLARK, 97 W. MAIN
Time: 11:06 p.m.
Narrative per police report: Officers responded to a theft at the Clark gas station committed by two juvenile males. The two juveniles were located, trespassed, and informed to make contact with the gas station's owner per their request.

Call type: TRAFFIC STOP
Location: 116 W. MAIN
Time: 9:11 p.m.
Narrative per police report: A traffic stop was conducted on the listed vehicle for having fictitious license plates. The vehicle was parked at the owner's residence. The plate was seized and placed in Shelby police evidence.
June 4
Call type: FOUND PROPERTY
Location: FAN CAVE. 111 W. MAIN
Time: 10:17 p.m.
Narrative per police report: A complainant turned in a cell phone that was located at the rear of his property. The phone was located on top of his trash can, and it's unknown how it got there. Attempts were made to identify the owner of the phone. But it appears to have been factory reset and has no cell service at this time. The phone will be held in evidence as found property.
June 4
Call type: FAMILY DISPUTE
Location: City of Shelby
Time: 1:20 a.m.
Narrative per police report: Officers responded in reference to a 911 hang-up. Upon arrival, officers were met out front by two people. Upon speaking with both parties, it was determined that they had been involved in a heated argument, and the female was threatening to call 911 and had her phone out with the number dialed. The female later threw the phone, at which point the call to 911 was completed accidentally. Both parties had consistent stories when spoken to separately. Neither party had any visible injuries or claimed that any physical altercation had occurred. Both subjects wished to remain at home together so they could try to resolve their issues.
June 5
Call type: CHECK WELFARE
Location: W. MAIN
Time: 10:31 a.m.
Narrative per police report: Officers were dispatched to a West Main Street apartment for a check welfare complaint. Officers were told the person has been depressed due to recently being terminated and evicted. The staff at his former employment has not heard from him in four days. Officers attempted contact with no success. Officers spoke with a family member who confirmed they spoke to him in person the last two days. Officers relayed a message to the family member to have the person contact officers if he is willing and able.
