Morrow County deputy killed, suspect injured in domestic call response
MARENGO -- A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy was killed and a suspect seriously wounded in an officer-involved shooting Monday evening while responding to a domestic disturbance, officials said.
The deputy, whose name has not been released, was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of County Road 26 in Marengo, about 50 miles south of Shelby.
Upon arriving at the scene, a shooting occurred in which the deputy was struck. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The suspect was also shot during the encounter and was transported to a hospital in serious condition, a statement from Morrow County Sheriff John L. Hinton said.
“There are no words to express the pain being felt by our office,” Hinton said via news release.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with support from the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Authorities have not released further details, and the investigation remains active.
