Police responded to a "road rage-type" incident that started near Broadway and Wilcox Street in Shelby, where a motorist reported his vehicle was struck from behind by a van, a police report released Wednesday shows.
The driver said he was traveling south on Broadway about 6:01 p.m. on Dec. 8, when the van behind him honked its horn. The driver pulled over near McBride Field.
The incident later escalated at Wilcox and Second Street, where the suspect vehicle reportedly collided with the rear of the motorist's vehicle that had stopped, the Shelby police report shows.
The suspect, driving a silver cargo van adorned with blue pinstriping, allegedly fled in the opposite direction, police were told.
No injuries are reported. The motorist noticed damage on the side passenger door of the suspect's van. He confirmed that the existing dent on his own vehicle's bumper predated the incident.
Shelby police photographed the motorist's vehicle and confirmed that a report would be filed.
The call was classified as a "crash/hit skip" in the report.
