Tornado snaps trees in Medina County
A tornado with estimated peak winds of 81 mph snapped trees as it touched down briefly in Medina County on Monday, the National Weather Service in Cleveland reports.
The EF0 tornado, which caused no injuries, traveled 1.32 miles with a maximum width of 40 yards in an area about five miles from Briarwood Beach, the weather service said in a public information statement Tuesday.
The tornado began at 3:57 p.m. in Chatham Township and traveled to Lafayette Township and ended at 3:59 p.m., the report shows.
The tornado primarily caused damage to trees along its path. It also damaged a small barn near the intersection of Spencer Lake Road and Erhart Road, the weather service said. Minor roof damage to a home and several large tree branches snapped were observed near Carsten Road, it added.
The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes based on wind speeds, with an EF0 tornado having winds between 65 and 85 mph.
