The undefeated Shelby Whippets football team rose to No. 2 Tuesday in the latest Ohio High School Athletic Association weekly football computer ratings.
Shelby (9-0) is in Division IV Region 14. The Whippets moved ahead of Ontario, a team that Shelby defeated 50-36 on Oct. 18 at the Whippet Athletic Complex. Sandusky Perkins (8-1) is ranked No. 2 in Shelby’s region.

The computer ratings are released every week beginning in the fifth week of the season, leading up to the final report on Sunday, Oct. 27, the OHSAA said in its announcement Tuesday. In all 448 schools – the top 16 in each region – will qualify for the playoff, the OHSAA said.

Shelby’s next game is Oct. 25 at Marion Pleasant. With its win over Ontario this past week, Shelby already has clinched at least a share of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference title.
