Vehicle crashes through PNC Bank building in Erie County
ERIE COUNTY -- A vehicle driven by a man who became affected by a medical condition drove across six lanes of U.S. 250 traffic, and jumped a curb, eventually crashing through the front of PNC Bank, where firefighters freed the trapped motorist, authorities said early Friday.
The one-vehicle crash occurred late Thursday at the intersection of Strub Road and U.S. 250 in Erie County's Perkins Township in the Sandusky area, an Ohio State Highway Patrol report indicated.
The 32-year-old Sandusky, Ohio, man was affected by a medical condition while driving eastbound on Strub Road, authorities said in their report.
The motorist missed a curve approaching the U.S. 250 intersection and drove off the right side of the roadway, the patrol said. The vehicle continued east through private property and struck a junction box that supplied power for traffic lights at the intersection.
After striking the junction box, the vehicle entered U.S. 250 where it drove across the six lanes of traffic ahead of the crash.
Perkins Township Fire & EMS transported the man to Firelands Medical Center for his injuries. No one else was hurt.
The Sandusky Register reports that a massive hole is near the main entrance of the building that's now considered unstable after the pickup truck crash.
