Another Shelby Whippet athlete is headed to the college level.
Shelby’s Annie Mahek will continue her tennis career starting next academic year at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon.

A signing ceremony was Monday in the Shelby High School gymnasium, the Whippets athletic department said in an announcement.

A senior, Mahek played first singles for Shelby in the recently concluded fall sports season. She was named first-team all Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference in 2024 and is league player of the year for a second time. Mahek's coach at Shelby is Anessa Berry.

Last week, in the first of the fall signings at Shelby High School, Whippet Eve Schwemley announced she would continue her basketball career starting in 2025-26 at Ohio Dominican University in the Columbus area.
