Tuscarawas County: 2 dead prior to graduation party
TUSCARAWAS COUNTY -- The deaths on Sunday of a 54-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman are being investigated as a possible murder-suicide prior to a graduation party at a residence, authorities said.
About 1:36 p.m., the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a shooting at home along Gordon Road NW in Dover Township.
"The caller advised that she was at the home getting ready for a graduation party for a resident in the home when shots went off in the home," the sheriff's office said via news release.
The caller indicated that the male in the home just shot his wife and then shot himself, the news release said.
Deputies responded and located the 54-year-old male deceased lying on his bed and the 53-year-old female on the floor near the bed, authorities said. Dover Fire had responded as well and began life-saving measures immediately on the female, who was eventually transported to the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Tuscarawas County sheriff detectives and the sheriff’s office crime scene technician responded to the scene, as did the Tuscarawas County coroner’s office.
"While there is still evidence to process and information to gather, preliminary indication suggests that murder-suicide is the most likely cause due to evidence and witness statements at the scene," the sheriff's office said.
The graduation party was for a child who lived at the home but was not there at the time, as the party, yet to begin, was planned a few hundred yards away on the property.
No names have been released, pending notification of additional family, Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell said.
The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office will determine the male’s cause and manner of death, while the Stark County Coroner’s Office will do so for the female, who was pronounced dead in Stark County.
